Sikkim Mail, another daily English newspaper launched


Gangtok, February 19: With the emergence of new technology, the print media in tiny Himalayan State Sikkim is making headway with the publication of daily newspaper from the State capital. In a population of about 5 lakhs, there are about 72 newspapers registered with RNI, Government of India. About four daily newspapers publish in Vernacular Nepali language, four daily in English and one daily in Hindi. Now, Sikkim Mail, which started publication in July 2004 as weekly, has joined the daily publication from February 19. A noted literary person and critics Dr. Gopal Dahal inaugurated the daily in a function here at Nepali Sahitya Parishad. Dr. Gopal, the Chief Guest of the occasion lauded the performance of the journalist working in Sikkim and appreciated the publication of daily, while Guest of honour, journalist B.Bantawa highlighted about the prospect of journalism in Sikkim. Shri Asit Rai, Editor of the daily highlighted about the objectives of the publication. Shri Hemanta Giri and Pravin Khaling too spoke on journalism. Shri Simon Paul Rai conducted the function.
