GANGTOK, March 14: The Chief Minister Pawan Chamling inaugurated the Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal Memorial Park at White hall here today morning.
The Chief Minister, who was accompanied by the Cabinet Ministers and other dignitaries, also inaugurated another park Hydrangea, located below Samman Bhawan.
Earlier known as the Ridge Park, the Chogyal Thondup Namgyal Memorial Park has been renovated giving it an entirely new look.
While informing the press about the water fountains, the Additional Director (parks and gardens) of Forest department BK Tewari, informed that the two fountain double water fall and wedding cake in both the parks have been built at a cost of Rs 22 lakhs under the MP lad fund.
The stone fencing and the renovation has been carried out by the State Public Health and Engineering Department. Earlier, the Chief Minister flagged off five SNT city runner buses from the bust of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru. The Secretary of SNT, KN Bhutia informed that the buses have been introduced keeping in view the international flower festival.
According to him, the buses will ply from different places within a gap of 30 minutes from 9am to 7pm. “The main idea behind launching the new city runners is to bring about decrease in the traffic congestion which has become one of the most important problems in the capital,” he said adding “the department is hopeful that the buses will cater to the traveling needs of the people especially the government employees who come daily from Assam Lingzey, Ranipool, Penlong, Burtuk and other paces.”
The 28 and 32 seated Tata model and Eicher buses have been coloured in its original colour with an amulet of Red Panda. “The department is also coming up with the new technology of e-governance and online booking of the tickets,” Mr Bhutia added.
