Singtam’s Miss Bharat World 2013 returns home



SINGTAM, JUNE 28: Shyama Shree Sherpa from Singtam who had recently been adjudged the 1st Runners-up at the beauty pageant held at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh has returned home with her crown yesterday. Sherpa, who is pursuing her graduation in Journalism and Mass Communication at Kolkata was among the top ten finalists of the Miss Bharat beauty competition that had participants from different parts of India. She had won the Miss Bharat World 2013 along with another title of Miss Photogenic 2013  at the same event.

Mohan Pradhan “Neeraj”, Sansthapak Singtam Basibiyalo along with his team had visited the beauty pageant winner and congratulated her. Pradhan said it is an achievement for a girl from Sikkim to have won the 1st runners-up title at a national beauty event. We are all proud of her and wish her much success in days to come, he added. Pradhan also congratulated the proud parent Dawa Sherpa and Savitri Chettri on the occasion. The team of Singtam Basibiyalo included Mohan Pradhan “Neeraj”, Raj K Shrestha, senior Nepali literature writer, Praveen Pradhan, MD, Badhaichha Creation, Kamal Gurung, and Shital Pradhan.

Talking to this reporter, Sherpa said I am very happy to represent my state of Sikkim in the competition and I would like to thank the people of Sikkim for my success; I would like to thank every individual who had supported me on social networking site. I would also like to express my gratitude towards Press and Media for their overall support. I would also be grateful to my parents for their love and support, added Sherpa.
 
Shyama Shree Sherpa further added, she had been offered to participate at the ‘Glory of Universe’ beauty pageant to be held in Paris next year. Being among the top three winners she has also received a second lead role in a Hindi film “Muskil hai rahi pyar ke” under Aman Gandhi Film Production, the organizer of the beauty event.

Passionate about dancing, Sherpa had previously won accolades for the state in the different dance competitions. In Miss Bharat 2013 competition, Sherpa had performed a Bharatnatyam that was well received by the audiences.  A participant of Miss Sikkim 2013, Sherpa also has thanked the Sikkim-based beauty pageant for the beauty session and workshop. The event gave her encouragement to do better at Bhopal.

10 mins to Earth followed at Toppakhani






SINGTAM, JUNE 25:  Energy and Power Department, Toppakhani Circle I joined hand with rest of the state of Sikkim in organizing the “10 minutes to Earth” program.  Different species of flowering and non flowering saplings were planted at its premises. Present on the occasion was Raju Gurung (SE), LP Tiwari (DE), Devendra Century (DE) and the staff of Power Department, Toppakhani Circle I.
Similarly at Toppakhani Stage II Power House, plantation was also organsied today. More than 70 saplings of pine, laampattey, bottle brush, avocado, marigold, chaap and others were planted.  CM Tiwari (DE), Stage II, Dhurba Pradhan (Foreman) along with the other staff was present on the occasion.

Singtam greets newly elected executive body of Sikkim Newa Guthi


SINGTAM, JUNE 24: An Annual General Meeting cum Election of the Executive body of Sikkim Newa Guthi was held at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok yesterday. More than two dozen guthis/organisation from different parts of Sikkim had participated in the meeting. Shri Rohit Kumar Pradhan was elected the new President of Sikkim Newa Guthi.
Mohan Pradhan “Neeraj”, General Secretary, Singtam Newar Kalyan Sangathan and Sansthapak Singtam Basibiyalo have extended happiness and congratulation to Shri Rohit Kumar Pradhan on his second term as the President of Sikkim Newa Guthi. Neeraj had said, we will always be prepared for any responsibilities towards the betterment of our culture and community.
Praveen Pradhan, Managing Director, Badhaichha Creation from Singtam on the occasion has also extended warmth regard to the elected executive body. Pradhan has urged the Newar population of the state to join hand together and support the newly elected executive body.
The newly formed executive body included Shri Rohit Kumar Pradhan (President), Shri Suren Pradhan {Vice President (M)}, Smt. Kalpana Pradhan{Vice President (F)}and Shri Mani Kumar Pradhan (General Secretary) and Shri Rohit Pradhan (Treasurer).

Spiritual and inspirational workshop held at Shantinagar







SINGTAM, June 17: A day long inspirational workshop for the parents of the Bal Bikas students cum spiritual edification was held yesterday at Karma Thuji Cheoling Gumpa premises, Shantinagar jointly organized by Shantinagar Bhajan Mandali and Toppakhani Bhajan Mandali under Shri Satya Sai Sewa Sangathan, Sikkim. In the day long program, thoughts and converse on the spiritual importance and serving to divine in an individual’s life was put to light.
BB Lopchan, Advisor, STCS was the Chief Guest of the day. Other distinguished on the day included Dawa Sherpa, President, Land Use, JK Limboo (Darjeeling), Pemchung Lepcha, Former East Zilla President Shri Satya Sai Sewa Sangathan, KS  Pradhan, Sate Parenting Coordinator, Sushila Khawas, KB Chettri, Principal, THNSSS, Dorjee Sherpa, HM, Phadamchen SSS, members of Singtam Sai Samiti, Shantinagar Bhajan Mandali, Toppakhani Bhajan Mandali and others.
Program started with the lightening of the lamp by the Chief Guest. It was followed by Veda, Rudram and Bhajan recitations. Distinguished speakers spoke on different topics related to discipline, good manners and behaviors and balanced diet that would lead to better lifestyle was told.
JK Limboo, resource person of the day in his speech spoked about the importance of spiritual life and its significance played in one’s life. He also spoked about the life span of Shri Satya Sai Baba. It is us the human, who need to provide a better society, better surroundings follow religious texts and observe better life, said Limboo. Sushila Khawas, the other resource person spoked about the importance of educare. KS Pradhan and BB Lopchan also shared their spiritual experience before the gathered audiences. BB Chettri started the program with a welcome speech while PP Uppreti gave the vote of thanks.

Hope Cooke on Sikkim



Wow!! Was the first word that came from my heart. Watching Hope Cooke speak was nothing more than a dream come true. As a student of Sikkim History, my passion for learning more about my state grows with me with each passing day. 

Today, I am more than happy to see our former Gyalmo speak in Sikkim. I might be among the first few to have seen this video; so far, 14 views have been recorded. I hope my readers, too, like this video from YouTube.

Bharat Jyoti Awardee 2013 Bikash Pradhan greeted at Rangpo


SINGTAM, JUNE 12: Bikash Pradhan, recipient of Bharat Jyoti Award 2013 was greeted today at Rangpo-Namthang Raod by the members of Singtam Basibiyalo, Badhaichha Creation, and a team of Namthang. Pradhan, resident of Namthang had received Bharat Jyoti Award 2013 in the field of social work at Multipurpose Hall Max Muller Marg, near Lodhi Garden, New Delhi from India International Friendship Society, Delhi on June 10.
 
Bikash Pradhan thanked everyone for the warm welcome and said that his success was not complete without a teamwork. He wished to share his success with everyone who had helped him in his way of success.


Mohan Pradhan “Neeraj”, Santhapak Singtam Basibiyalo has said, it is an achievement we should remember for a long time. He added for every Sikkimese it is a proud moment that our son has made his presence in the national scenario. Cleanliness Program at PHC Pakyong East Sikkim

Paarijat Pragati Sangh of Pakyong Samsing conducted a day long cleanliness drive program in and around the Pakyong hospital campus on 09/06/2013, Sunday. The said program was conducted in presence of Dr.Tashi Pegay M.O. I/C PHC Pakyong and the club president Mr. B.N .Khatiwada. All the 35 members of said club were present and all the members of the club wholeheartedly performed the physical and manual task of cleanliness drive. The club observed the gardening program and removed all the unwanted weeds and grasses from the campus and also planted some plants around the surroundings to   make it a healthy environment for the patients. Finally, Dr. Pegay extended her heartfelt thanks to the members of the club during small meeting after accomplishing the cleaning program in hospital hall.
