Inter-House Cultural competition held at Aritar SS

SINGTAM, MAY 1: Aritar Secondary School held an Inter-House Cultural competition at the school premises on April 29. The competition was part of the activity calendar for the year 2015.
The theme of the cultural activity was based on Nepali folk songs. All the four houses that included Tiger House, Snow-lion House, Dragon House, and Eagle House presented their colorful presentation amidst a whooping crowd that had teachers, students, and local people.
Speaking on the occasion, H.N.Shenga, Headmaster of the school briefed the students about the importance of extra-curricular activity. He further said that Aritar SS had always been a champion in the cultural activity and the students had brought laurels to the school by bagging first prizes in the various cultural competitions held in and around the constituency. He urged more new faces to be given chances in the school activities. Further, he also put forth his viewpoint to work collectively for the overall development of the school and students.
Shreya Pradhan, a member of the House Activity Conducting Committee assured that the committee is leaving no stone unturned to make Inter -House completion, competitive in spirit. She shared her happiness over the students as more n more students were taking part in the Competition.

Sikkim Mahinda Thero: A national hero of Sri Lanka

Sikkim Mahinda Thero BY SHITAL PRADHAN I first heard about S Mahinda Thero in 2005 while in Kolkata when I was asked by one of the stamp dealers whether I was interested in a 20 paisa stamp of S Mahinda Thero issued by the Sri Lankan Postal Department in the early 1970s. I collected philatelic items on Buddhism, but I never understood who he was talking about. He told me, as I was from Sikkim, I might be interested to know more about the person, and he went on to add it was Sikkim Mahinda Thero, a Buddhist monk who is regarded as a national hero, a famous poet in the Sinhalese language whose poetry promoted patriotism and the revival of Buddhism to this part of the Island. He promised to send me the stamp of S Mahinda Thero from Colombo through the mail, but I have never heard from him since then.
