'Parcel' attracts its audience; felicitation program also held


SINGTAM, MARCH 9: On March 8, 2017, a special screening of the Nepali feature film Parcel was held at ATTC Hall, Burdang. More than twenty personalities from different fields in Singtam and beyond were felicitated. 
 
Tilu Gurung, MLA Rateypani, was the Chief Guest of the evening. Other distinguished guests included Gopal Baraily - MLA West Pandam, Shyam Pradhan - MLA Arithang, Dr. Mechung Bhutia - MLA Martam Rumtek, DB Giri - SP East, Ajay Rai - SDPO, and others related to films and cultural background. 
 
Kishore Limbu, actor and producer of Parcel, was also felicitated in the evening. Distinguished personalities belonging to different fields were awarded letters of appreciation. Those included Uttam Pradhan, Chairman—of Sikkim Film Board; Chunnilal Ghimeray—film Director; AB Gurung—BDO Namthang; Ugen T Bhutia—Panchayat President Sang; Sonam Palden Barfungpa—Principal ATTC, Krishna Chettri, TB Pradhan, Bimal Lamichaney, Mohan Pradhan, Shital Pradhan, Tinku Adhikari, and others.
 
Tilu Gurung, the evening's chief guest, appreciated the efforts of the organizing team for such an event. Gurung also appreciated the felicitation program. She said such a ceremony encourages the younger generation to examine their society.
 
Himmat Rai, MEO, hosted the evening, while Praja Pradhan, actor of Parcel from Sang Nazitam, also spoke on the occasion. Praja Pradhan directed a three-minute short film on 39 Beyong Phegyung GPU, which participated in a national-level competition. V-Matrix Dance Academy from Singtam performed a dance on the occasion.

Sikkim closes for a day in support of their CM

A 12-hour bandh call by the supporters of the ruling SDF party was observed today. The bandh was called to protest the burning of Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling's effigy by the Shiv Sena activists on the 11th of September in Siliguri, West Bengal charging CM Chamling with having 'dual nationality. Except for Army and GREF all other Vehicles, as well as shops, were closed. Such a state bandh was last held ten years back. (photographs from Singtam)

Snake like fish caught in Singtam River

The  Indian mottled eel,  locally known as Raj Bam,   was recovered from the Singtam River at Golitar this early morning.  The snake-like fish weighed around 7 kg and was four feet long. The local people said that they had never seen this species for so long. Such mysterious-looking marine fish are also sighted from time to time on the river banks, local people added.
