Vivek Yonzone wins second consecutive Silver at National Philatelic Exhibition


SINGTAM, December 24: For the second consecutive year, Vivek Yonzone from Singamari, Darjeeling, won a silver medal at the National Philatelic Exhibition at World Trade Center, Mumbai, on December 22. INPEX 2019 was organized by the Philatelic Congress of India from December 18-22, 2019. Yonzone is the General Secretary of the ALPINE Philatelic and Numismatic Society. Yonzone displayed five-frame exhibits on Element of Music. His exhibition had both Indian and foreign materials on music. He is also a member of the Sikkim Philatelic and Numismatic Society.
The society was represented at the exhibition by Surya Kanta Biswas, Patron from Murshidabad, and Vivek Yonzone from Singamari, Darjeeling. The event witnessed a display of more than 500 frames of Philatelic materials with competition from many groups like Traditional Philately, Postal History, Indian Pre and Post-Independence Stamps, Thematic Philately, and others. Through this press release, Sushil Karthok, President of ALPINE Philatelic and Numismatic Society, has congratulated Vivek Yonzone for bringing recognition to Darjeeling Philately at the national level.

Sikkim Outplayed Nagaland in Col. C. K. Nayudu Trophy

After sharing the points in the first match of the Col. C. K. Nayudu Trophy against Pondicherry as the match was drawn due to rain, Sikkim outplayed Nagaland in the second match played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, Nagaland today by 3 wickets.


It was a very interesting match as the match continued until the last day. Both side gave their best in both innings. Nagaland won the toss and chose to bat first. In their first innings, Nagaland made 280 runs off 110.4 overs, where one of their players, named Wahid, scored 121 runs, the highest of the innings. Chandra Bahadur Chettri and Mohammad Saptula took 3 wickets each, Dinesh Kumar Dhobi took 2 wickets, Chandan Kumar and Harit Chauhan took 1 wicket each. In Sikkim’s first innings, 310 runs were scored, of which Parth Palawat scored 110 runs, Mohammad Shahbaz 52 runs, Harit Chauhan 46 runs, Akash Luitel 35 runs, and Chandra Bahadur Chettri 25 runs in 110.3 overs, taking the lead of 30 runs.

In the second innings, Nagaland was all out for 196 runs, setting the target of 166 runs. It was Saptula’s brilliant spell that thrashed the opponent, taking 8 wickets, and Harit bagged 2 wickets. Sikkim reached the target in 46.3 overs,s scoring 168 runs. Harit scored the innings' highest of 44 runs, Shahbaz 37 runs, Saptula 35 runs, Parth 16 runs, and Sanjay Chettri 11 runs.

Sikkim Philatelist wins Bronze in INPEX-2019



SINGTAM, December 22: Roshan Prasad from Singtam, Sikkim, wins bronze in Literature class at INPEX-2019 (National Philatelic Exhibition) at World Trade Center, Mumbai today.

The exhibition was organized by the Philatelic Congress of India from 18 to 22 December 2019 in collaboration with the Department of Posts, India. He is a popular philatelist with International recognition and is also the Treasurer of the Sikkim Philatelic & Numismatic Society. Over 250 participants from various states of India participated in the competition.

Prasad had participated in the Literature class of the exhibition with his book “The Stamp Collectors’ Dictionary”. The book was published by the Department of Posts, Sikkim Division, last February during SIKKIMPEX-2019.  The book was published by the Department of Posts, Sikkim Division, Ministry of Communication, Government of India.

Roshan is known for his Cricket collections. He started writing this cricket dictionary in 2011 when he felt that there are so many words in Stamp Collection that new collectors should know and also there are many words that are still unknown to many senior collectors as well.  

He completed the book in 2016 in Dubai, UAE, with over 450 words and abbreviations that are in common use among Stamp Collectors. The Postmaster General of North Bengal and Sikkim released the book at SIKKIMPEX 2019 at Gangtok.

Mr Sikkim Demazong 2019 releases New Heaven Dance Academy’s logo

SINGTAM, DECEMBER 22: Anand Lamichaney, Royal Plaza Mr Sikkim Demazong 2019 launched the logo of New Heaven Dance Academy at Rangpo today. Distinguished guests present on the occasion included Sangita Khawas, Top 6 at Mrs Sikkim 2018, Bikash Prasad, Shital Pradhan, blogger, Proud to Be a Sikkimese, students of the Institute and their guardians.



New Heaven Dance Academy was recently re-launch and this time its logo was officially released.  Speaking on the occasion, Bishnu Suman, Managing Director cum Choreographer of the Institute congratulated Anand Lamichaney for winning the coveted title and shared best wishes to him. Suman further said that Anand Lamichaney was his former student at Dance. He had joined his dance Institute at Singtam for a few months some ten years back. It was his biggest achievement that his former student accepted his invitation to launch his Dance Academy’s logo, he added.

 
Sangita Khawas, a former participant in Mrs Sikkim 2018, also spoke on the occasion and shared her experience during the first-ever Mrs Sikkim competition. She congratulated Suman for his hard work and thanked him for allowing the children to engage at Rangpo. 

Anand Lamichaney, too, in his brief speech, spoke of the old days he had spent with his dance teacher. He assured promotional help for the Institute. Lamichaney is the winner of Royal Plaza Mr Sikkim Demazong 2019 and four additional titles of Mr Alamode, Mr Multimedia, Mr Talented and Mr Tourism in the recently held Mr Sikkim Man Hunt 2019.

Stamps and Numismatic exhibition held at Duga School

DECEMBER 21, SINGTAM: Sikkim Philatelic and Numismatics Society held an exhibition on - Stamps, Numismatics, Autographs and other hobby-related materials at the Aurora Student Fest 2019 held at Sunrise Academy, Duga, East Sikkim on December 21.


Award-winning philatelic exhibits, old Indian bank notes and foreign currencies were displayed. The crowd was excited to see the autographs of Bhaichung Bhutia, Danny Denzongpa, MS Dhoni, Kunti Mokhtan, Bhuwan KC and others. The society was represented by Ganesh Pradhan and Shital Pradhan, President and General Secretary of SPNS and Sishir Pradhan, member of SPNS. The crowds especially the student's guardians thanked SPNS for this innovative exhibition. The students thoroughly enjoyed the displayed items.

Five day Annual Function starts at Rongli SS



SINGTAM, DECEMBER 18: Five-day long Annual Function of Government Secondary School, Rongli starts from today. The highlight of the day was Inter-School Badminton for Secondary Schools and Inter-School Quiz competition for Primary School levels. Damber Pradhan, Area In-Charge 20th Chujachen was the Chief Guest of the day. Other guests included School Heads of different schools and others.
 


The program started with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest. Bhumika Rai gave the welcome speech while Lalita Rai gave the vote of thanks. Phadamchen SS, Chujachen SSS, South Regu SS, and Rongli SS had reached the next round of the Inter-School Badminton competition in Boy’s Singles, Girl’s Singles, and Mixed Doubles.



In the quiz event Dokchen Primary School, Posakay Primary School, and Rongli SS got through to the final round to be held on December 22. Through this press release, the school family had thanked every department, institution, individual, press media, and well-wishers for their successful support.
