Auditions of Miss Sikkim pageants held

SINGTAM, DECEMBER 8: Auditions for Miss Sikkim 2020 along with Miss Teen & Mr Teen 2020 were held on 5th & 6th December respectively in Gangtok at Pitstop, Pani House. More than 80 contestants from various parts of Sikkim had participated in the auditions. 

Virtual auditions had already been conducted last month, wherein 30 online applicants had participated. Next audition is to be held in Namchi, South Sikkim at the end of the month due to many requests from the contestants who couldn't attend it. The audition was judged by Gyurmila Bhutia (CEO, Positude), Ritu Chamling (MD, Positude), Sumana Gurung (1st Runner up, Miss Sikkim 2019) & Anisha Chettri (Event Director, Positude). 

Positude, the event management company based in Gangtok had been organising Miss Sikkim from 2014 and they had been providing such amazing platforms to numerous young aspirants from Sikkim who wanted to excel in the world of fashion, modelling & beauty pageantry. Positude is also the official talent hunt partner of VLCC Femina Miss India.  Reetika Chettri, Miss Sikkim 2019 is the finalist from Sikkim in Femina Miss India to be held in February 2021.

Sikkim Mahinda Thero: A national hero of Sri Lanka

Sikkim Mahinda Thero BY SHITAL PRADHAN I first heard about S Mahinda Thero in 2005 while in Kolkata when I was asked by one of the stamp dealers whether I was interested in a 20 paisa stamp of S Mahinda Thero issued by the Sri Lankan Postal Department in the early 1970s. I collected philatelic items on Buddhism, but I never understood who he was talking about. He told me, as I was from Sikkim, I might be interested to know more about the person, and he went on to add it was Sikkim Mahinda Thero, a Buddhist monk who is regarded as a national hero, a famous poet in the Sinhalese language whose poetry promoted patriotism and the revival of Buddhism to this part of the Island. He promised to send me the stamp of S Mahinda Thero from Colombo through the mail, but I have never heard from him since then.
