Heartwarming Farewell: A Look Back on 10 Years at Sakyong Chisopani JHS

02.09.23: In a heart-warming and emotional atmosphere, Mrs. Nirmala Sharma Madam and I participated in our farewell program at Sakyong Chisopani JHS. It was a truly special moment when I had the honour of receiving a Letter of Appreciation from the esteemed hands of Shri PB Subba, our Headmaster. What's more, I was absolutely delighted to be presented with a captivating and exquisitely hand-drawn portrait of myself, a true work of art, gifted by Shri Arbin Chettri, the talented GT Science student of the school.

The Khadas and thoughtful gifts offered by my fellow staff filled me with deep emotions. The individual gifts brought by some of my dear students left me speechless, overwhelmed by their kindness and thoughtfulness. I was delighted to see the presence of Shri LN Sharma, the former Incharge of the school, with whom I had a long and meaningful association during my tenure there. The program was made even more special with the attendance of esteemed SMCs – Shri Zigden Sherpa, Shri Done Tshring Rai, and Shri Badal Pariyar; Smt. Deepa Chettri, Panchayat, her officials, and Shri Uttam Gurung. I was particularly pleased to have Shri Parsu Gurung, one of my former students, join us on this significant day.

I am truly grateful to my former school for organizing such a heartwarming farewell program, even though I had to cut it short due to an unavoidable commitment at the Manan Kendra program, as requested by the Education Department.

I had the pleasure of immersing myself in the cultural program, and it was an absolute joy. All the cultural performances, including the enchanting welcome songs, the harmonious group songs, and the soul-stirring performances by Miss Rajani Gurung and Master Rohan Bishwakarma, left me spellbound. Witnessing my students shine on stage filled me with immense happiness and pride.Thank You, Mrs. Bhawana Pandey, Madam, and Mrs. Juna Pradhan, Madam, for the welcome speech and vote of thanks.

Blessings to my students, best wishes to the school staff, and wherever I am, whatever I do, I shall always remember the best 10 years I spent at this school.

History on Easter Sunday and Padari Ganga Prasad Pradhan

By Seira Tamang As noted by various scholars, Hinduism, the Nepali language, the monarchy and a rastriya itihas (a chronicle of progress in which the dark era of Rana rule is contrasted with the enlightened, progressive and modern period of Panchayat rule) formed the core of the Panchayat regime’s national culture. The formation and consolidation of this national culture have required the expunging of uncomfortable facts and stories that might raise ambiguities and questions. While the selection of what and who is and is not acknowledged to exist (or at least exist in historically important ways) in official Nepali history is complex, social scientists have begun to provide more comprehensive historical accounts of the past through oral histories and re-readings of historical documents. Such accounts reveal how ordinary people lived in the past, and offer ways to think through how ‘history’ is crafted, shaped and managed in order to reflect ‘the reality’ best suited to the status quo, ...

Sikkim Mahinda Thero: A national hero of Sri Lanka

Sikkim Mahinda Thero BY SHITAL PRADHAN I first heard about S Mahinda Thero in 2005 while in Kolkata when I was asked by one of the stamp dealers whether I was interested in a 20 paisa stamp of S Mahinda Thero issued by the Sri Lankan Postal Department in the early 1970s. I collected philatelic items on Buddhism, but I never understood who he was talking about. He told me, as I was from Sikkim, I might be interested to know more about the person, and he went on to add it was Sikkim Mahinda Thero, a Buddhist monk who is regarded as a national hero, a famous poet in the Sinhalese language whose poetry promoted patriotism and the revival of Buddhism to this part of the Island. He promised to send me the stamp of S Mahinda Thero from Colombo through the mail, but I have never heard from him since then. However, regarding my limited concern, it was enough to know that such a person keeps the name Sikkim with honor and pride in Sri Lanka. I had the name...
