This was a national song of Sikkim sung in the Nepali language during the monarchy system. During the merger with India, the song got banned and later re-released. Two words on the 8th para, which earlier said 'Rajah rah Rani,' were replaced with "Janmah bhumi." This song was dedicated to the King and Queen of Sikkim. The song lyrics were penned by Sanu Lama, and the music was composed by Dushyant Lama. The song was first sung on the birth anniversary of Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal on April 4, 1970, at Gangtok by Aruna Lama, Dawa Lama, and Manikamal Chettri. Dear administrator of the blog "Proud to be a Sikkimese":
ReplyDeleteI am a Spanish historian who lives in a small region of the North of Spain called Cantabria and who has recently opened his own blog called "Mi rincón de la Bahía" ("My own corner of the Bay"). Being faraway, it´s incredible how we can be so close due to mass media.
I have been interested in Sikkim for many years since I heard of this old kingdom of the Himalaya due to Alexandra David-Néel and Nicholas Roerich, who talked about the Sikkimese gompas and mystic lamas.
I have found your blog interesting and, although it´s in Spanish, I would be very glad if you could enter my blog and leave a comment. There, we also talk about environment and spitituality. Here is the link: http://mirincondelabahia.wordpress.com/.
Thanks in any case and go on with your blog.
Yours sincerely,
bogomilo (blogger of "Mi
rincón de la Bahía").
