Five days programme of Sri Satya Sai Baba Samiti held at Sombarey, West Sikkim

The five-day programme of  Sri Satya Sai Baba  Samiti  Sombarey  West Sikkim started from GJHS Rumbuk with the Seva  Dal attending the school and providing service to the student, by cutting nails,  combing hair and cutting hair and giving tips on health and hygiene. The organization also provided free school sweaters for class I, free copies for class II students and free creative drawing copies for class III and biscuits for all students.  The team of Sewa Dal from the organization comprising of Mr Uphar Pradhan, Seva dal coordinator, Mr Harka Narayan Pradhan, Youth Convener and Mr Binod Chandak  Seva Organizer along with five other female Seva Dal were present at the event. 

Mrs. Laxmi Sharma  Seva Dal in her speech said that this day is a special day as it is observed as women’s day as it is the birthday of  Late Mrs Indira Gandhi and the beginning of a five-day celebration programme to marks the  86th Birthday of Bhagwan  Sri Satya Sai baba which is on 23rd  Nov.  The organization celebrates the special day by providing selfless service to all the people and children. The other programme is to visit a rural area in Beyoung for the service.   

And grant celebration on 23rd Nov. at Sombarey Mandir, it is planned with the free distribution of clothes for the needy. The programme came to an end with thanks from the headmaster for service and extended full cooperation in the future too. Later in the evening, the women's day was celebrated where Mrs. Y.N. Kazini and Mrs. Dimple Pradhan was felicitated for their selfless service to society.

Sikkim Mahinda Thero: A national hero of Sri Lanka

Sikkim Mahinda Thero BY SHITAL PRADHAN I first heard about S Mahinda Thero in 2005 while in Kolkata when I was asked by one of the stamp dealers whether I was interested in a 20 paisa stamp of S Mahinda Thero issued by the Sri Lankan Postal Department in the early 1970s. I collected philatelic items on Buddhism, but I never understood who he was talking about. He told me, as I was from Sikkim, I might be interested to know more about the person, and he went on to add it was Sikkim Mahinda Thero, a Buddhist monk who is regarded as a national hero, a famous poet in the Sinhalese language whose poetry promoted patriotism and the revival of Buddhism to this part of the Island. He promised to send me the stamp of S Mahinda Thero from Colombo through the mail, but I have never heard from him since then.
