Disability Awareness cum Assessment & Aids and Appliances camp held


Disability Awareness cum Assessment & Aids and Appliances camp organised by District Disability Rehabilitation Centre, Social Justice Empowerment & Welfare Department in collaboration with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. HRDD and Govt. Doctors & Specialist, Govt. of Sikkim. The assessment camps were successfully completed at following places are as under: Rangpo PHC, East on 17th March, Khamdong PHSC, East on 19th March, Soreng PHC, West on 21st March and Yuksam PHC, West on 22nd March 2016.
The camps were attended by different school going students as well as those children with disability problems. Those individuals with disability and as per their requirement the aids & appliances along with Disability Identity card was also distributed.
• Assessment camps for South and North district will be held on the following dates & venues: 24th march at Mangley PHC, South Sikkim, 
• 26th March at Melli PHC, South Sikkim and 
• 28th March 2016 at Mangan District Hospital, North Sikkim. 
It is requested that such camp is still continuing and such children and elders with disabilities should be informed and brought to the respective venues for their benefits.

Sikkim Mahinda Thero: A national hero of Sri Lanka

Sikkim Mahinda Thero BY SHITAL PRADHAN I first heard about S Mahinda Thero in 2005 while in Kolkata when I was asked by one of the stamp dealers whether I was interested in a 20 paisa stamp of S Mahinda Thero issued by the Sri Lankan Postal Department in the early 1970s. I collected philatelic items on Buddhism, but I never understood who he was talking about. He told me, as I was from Sikkim, I might be interested to know more about the person, and he went on to add it was Sikkim Mahinda Thero, a Buddhist monk who is regarded as a national hero, a famous poet in the Sinhalese language whose poetry promoted patriotism and the revival of Buddhism to this part of the Island. He promised to send me the stamp of S Mahinda Thero from Colombo through the mail, but I have never heard from him since then.
