New Heaven Dance Institute re-inaugurated at Rangpo

SINGTAM, DECEMBER 18:  Swaminath Prasad, President, Sikkim Bihari Jagaran Manch inaugurated the New Heaven Dance Academy opposite of Vital Clinic at Rangpo on December 16. Distinguished guests to attend the program included Sanjay Agarwal and Dipak Gurung, members of the Press Club of Sikkim, Johny Rai, Social Media-man from Singtam, Bhim Sharma and Shital Pradhan, teachers, and others. 



After a hiatus of four years, New Heaven Dance Institute is making a re-start at Rangpo. Bishnu Suman is the Director cum Dance Choreographer of New Heaven Dance Institute and also the man behind so many successful dancers that have won accolades in and beyond the state of Sikkim. Suman shared his dancing journey in Sikkim and thanked every individual for supporting him and his Institute. 


Originally from Delhi, Bishnu Suman has made Sikkim his second home for the last two decades. Over the years the students of New Heaven Dance Institute had participated in numerous state-level and national-level dance competitions. Suman feels that there is potential among the local talents but they lack exposure at the national level. 

Hardly we see a selected few participants doing wonders in a national television dance show. We will try to make an impact, he added. Apart from regular different forms of dance art, Bishnu adds this time we will also focus on Zumba, aerobics, and yoga.

Early Poets of Sikkim : Subhash Deepak

During the early two decades of the twentieth century young boys belonging to rich and aristocratic families including upper caste Brahmins were sent to Darjeeling or Benares for studies. These young boys naturally got an opportunity to encounter the new trends of awakening like the National movement of Indian Independence. The influence of great literary personalities like Lekhnath Poudyal (1884-1965), Lakshmi Prasad Devkota (1909-1965) and Balkrishna Sama (1902-1981) is very much evident on the poets associated with Apatan Sahitya Parishad . Sukunda: Newa`s five elements

(Information by Dipak Shrestha) Sukunda is a typical traditional Nepali oil lamp made of brass. The front part of this lamp shows a tiny icon of Ganesha, the god of luck and success. On its front is a small cup fixed in the shape of a Yoni used to put the wick. Fixed on the back of the lamp is a fascinating loop handle designed with a five-headed serpent (sometimes a mythical dragon or makara) raising its head in a very watchful attitude.  A small spoon with a nagakanya on top generally replenishes the reservoir's oil.
