Roshan Prasad wins his first International Literature medal on Philately

SINGTAM, MARCH 8: Sikkim Philatelist Roshan Prasad added another feather to his International Philatelic medals when he bagged a bronze medal at the Stamp Exhibition EPAEX 2020 – Dubai held on March 3-7, 2020 at Dragon Mart 2, Dubai, UAE. He won his medal for his book – The Stamp Collector’s Dictionary. Eight countries had participated in the exhibition that was organised by Emirates Philatelic Association. 


Earlier he had won Vermeil in Saudi Arabia, two Silvers at Taipei and Dubai, and now his fourth medal too at Dubai. His three international medals were on his cricket philately while this year’s bronze medal was won at a literature class. In addition, he has also won four medals at National Philatelic Exhibitions. His book is also selected for the 37th Asian International Philatelic Exhibition NZ2020 to be held in Auckland, New Zealand (March 19 -22, 2020). 

Speaking on the occasion, Prasad likes to thank Javed Mohammad, Emirates Philatelic Association for all the support he has provided. He has also thanked Shital Pradhan, Secretary, Sikkim Philatelic and Numismatic Society for being a mentor at this hobby. He is a member of the Emirates Philatelic Association and Sikkim Philatelic and Numismatic Society.

The coinage system of Sikkim

It is more or less a forgotten part of the development process of the then-small Himalayan kingdom, Sikkim . The introduction of the coinage system in Sikkim ceased the way it started. A study of the coinage system of Sikkim sheds light on the socio-economic and political history of the then-small state. The coins of Sikkim ended the way they appeared; they came from nowhere, and finally, they got lost out in the darkness. A handful of people around Sikkim and in the districts of Darjeeling now have these rare items in their collections. JANHA BAGCHA TEESTA RANGIT

This was a national song of Sikkim sung in the Nepali language during the monarchy system. During the merger with India, the song got banned and later re-released. Two words on the 8th para, which earlier said 'Rajah rah Rani,' were replaced with "Janmah bhumi."     This song was dedicated to the King and Queen of Sikkim.
