SINGTAM NBB DOES A PLANTATION DRIVE

SINGTAM, JULY 12: Members of Singtam Newa Bhay Bowneykuthi conducted a plantation drive at the premises of Karma Thuje Choling Monastery, Shantinagar, Singtam. More than 20 members participated on the event.

More than 60 different varieties of saplings were planted. Binod Pradhan, President NBB speaking on the occasion said since this is a plantation drive month, we too wanted to contribute to the environment. We had consulted with the Head Lama about the plantation drive; he helped us with the location. Suresh Tamang, Social Worker and Rinzing R Lhamu, member Monastery Committee was also present on the occasion.

The Gorkhas - Sons of the Soil, Pride of the Nation

Nanda Kirati Dewan, a journalist from Assam traces the origin of the Gorkhas in India. Many people have misconceptions about the Gorkhas in India - that they are foreigners and have migrated from Nepal. There could not be a greater mistake than this. The Gorkhas are in fact the aborigines of India and they can trace their history back to ancient times. The Gorkha community is the product of Indo-Aryan and Mongoloid assimilation from ages past. Sahitya Academi, New Delhi declares literary award, New Delhi, December 27: The prominent Nepali playwright Shri Laxman Shrimal was selected for the Sahitya Academi award for Nepali literature. This year, novelists and poets were the winners of the Sahitya Akademi Awards which was announced here on December 26. Every year, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi gives 24 awards prizes to the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the major Indian languages recognized by it.
