Sikkim gets its first win at Vijay Hazare Trophy ; defeats Manipur by 8 wickets

The Senior Men’s Team of Sikkim is currently playing Vijay Hazare Trophy at Chennai and in their third match today at IC- Gurunanak College Ground; they trashed Manipur by 8 wickets and registered their first win in the tournament.

Manipur won the toss and elected to bat first. In the first innings, they were all-out for 162 runs in 40.1 overs. Anureet Singh and Md Saptula took 3 wickets each, Anwesh Karan Sharma took 2 wickets and Varun Sood took 1 wicket. Md Saptula built the pressure on the opponent from the beginning by breaking the opening partnership and sending both the opening pairs back to the pavilion.

In the second innings, Sikkim had a good start. Ashish Thapa scored 43 runs, Robin Bist 85 not-out, Nilesh Lamichaney 14 runs and Varun Sood remained not-out at 5 runs. Sikkim won the match in 36.1 overs by 8 wickets and gained 4 point(s) for the win.

Sikkim will be playing a total of 5 matches in the tournament and they will be playing against Assam on 27^th February in the same venue and positively looking forward to it.

Sikkim Philately at a glance-2

Ever since Sikkim became part of the Indian Union, four major state-level Philatelic exhibitions had been held organized by the Department of Post. Little is known about the first philatelic exhibition SIKKIMPEX-82 except that among the many participants on the exhibition one of the participants was Late Ganga Kaptan, a legendary figure in Nepali literature. This was a national song of Sikkim sung in the Nepali language during the monarchy system. During the merger with India, the song got banned and later re-released. Two words on the 8th para, which earlier said 'Rajah rah Rani,' were replaced with "Janmah bhumi." This song was dedicated to the King and Queen of Sikkim. The song lyrics were penned by Sanu Lama, and the music was composed by Dushyant Lama. NMBP ASSURED FOR SIKKIMESE HERB Gangtok, May 25: Sikkim medicinal herbs sector is improving with farmers showing encouraging results and assurances coming from the National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB) for infrastructural and marketing support. In Sikkim nearly 424 species of medicinal plants grow in Sikkim, mostly in the wild, 70 per cent of which are found in the State's high altitude regions above 8,000 feet. The National Medicinal Plants Board has identified around 35 species as having commercial value and will support new schemes for the medicinal plant growers in the state.
