BCCI’s domestic season 2020-22 started with Sikkim defeating Mizoram by huge margin of 152 runs. Batting first at Ranchi , the Sikkim boys posted a score of 247 runs in 43 overs with Arun Chettri and Ankur Malik scoring 58 and 64 runs respectively. Malik had a terrific day with the bowl too, he too seven wickets with a hattrick , rest three wickets was taken by the Captain, Tarun Sharma . Sikkim will be playing a total of 5 matches in the Plate division of the Vinoo Mankad U-19 Tournament against Manipur , Nagaland , Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya .

Thank You George for the autograph, another Academy Award winner added to my Oscar collection. George Chakiris made his film debut in 1947 at the age of 12; the name of the film was Song of Love . But it was his role as Bernardo in 1961 cult film West Side Story that gave him both the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. 28.09.21: I am very happy to receive three autographs from Shirley Maclaine, Academy Award winners. The two photo card with my name was send by me and to my big surprise I  received a bigger colour autograph with my name. Thank You Madam. Shirley Maclaine is a five time Academy Award nominee and the winner of Best Actress in the 1983’s critically acclaimed comedy classic ‘ Terms of Endearment ’. The film had an eleven Oscar nomination out of which they received five awards. She started her career with Alfred Hitchcock’s in 1955’s  The Trouble with Harry . Shri Jacob Khaling, Political Secretary to Hon'ble Chief Minister was felicitated on the occasion of Indra Jatra 2021 at Golitar, Singtam. He launched the nepali documentary film ‘Indra Jatra’ prepared by the IPR Department on the auspicious occasion of Indra Jatra festival observed at Golitar, Singtam.    Dr. Sushen Pradhan, Bikash Pradhan and Binita Pradhan, representing the Sikkim Newar Guthi were present on the occasion. The documentary is little over 24 minutes and narrative shots taken on different places of Gangtok. Old footage of Indra Jatra celebrations held at Sikkim is also found in the film.

 

Singtam, September 17 : Sarita Pradhan, an aspiring actress and model from Burung, near Singtam is back home after doing a small cameo at the most awaited Aamir Khan's bollywood flick Lal Singh Chadda. Pradhan, is the 1st runner up of Face of Zylish 2020 organised by Zylish Academy held at Malbazaar, West Bengal. Born to Govind Pradhan and Mamta Pradhan, she has two nepali music videos to her credit and a nepali short film soon to be released. Sarita Pradhan is a make-up artist and the owner of Magical Touch, a professional beauty parlour at Singtam. Speaking on the occasion, Sarita thanked Samir Chandra Sir, casting director for the lifetime opportunity. She further said, she was at Kalimpong for the shoot of an episode of the Amazon Prime web-series The Girl when there was an announcement of the photo audition for the hindi movie in Mumbai. Singtam, September 8: Dengu Awareness Drive program was organized at Singtam by members of Dengu Monitoring and Prevention Committee and United Sporting Club, Singtam under the guidance of Singtam Nagar Panchayat. Present on the occasion were Sanjay Regmi, Chairman, Dengu Monitoring and Prevention Committee, Dr. Prabhat Mokhtan, District Hospital Singtam, Yad Kumari Bishwakarma, Councillor Ward No. 5, Sundar Rai, AEO, Khamdong BAC, Pritam Shilal, Coach, Singtam Boxing Club, Rajen Baniya and others. The highlight of the program was a rally by the boxing students of Singtam Boxing Club with placards sharing messages on Dengu Prevention. The cleanliness drive was also done at different localities of Singtam. The students also performed mimes on the occasion to spread the message of prevention and safety measures against the Dengu illness.

In the highest sports arena, a mere participation is the biggest win for the participating individuals. You become a legend even if you get a bronze medal. The Indian Paralympic team achieved the greatest feat when they won 19 medals. In the past five Paralympic games India had won 12 medals with four gold medals. This year the Indian contingent had won 5 gold medals. A wonderful achievement overall!! Alike, Paralympics, we also have Special Olympics Summer Games organised by the International Olympic Committee. This is an International sporting event for the athletes with intellectual disabilities. Believe me when I say Sikkim had three winners from the Special Olympics making the nation proud. Singtam, September 05: Members of Newa Bhay Bowneykutti, Singtam Newar Guthi met together for a general meeting. Highlight of the short gathering was to felicitate the teacher members of NBB, joining of new members, presentation of financial report of last two years and discussion of future plans of the organization. DK Pradhan, Secretary, Culture Wing, NBB was the chairperson of the meeting. Advisors, Executive members and other members of NBB were present on the occasion.
