Sovima Cricket Ground inaugurated in Dimapur

A historic day for cricket in the Northeast. The Six member State Associations gathered in Dimapur to celebrate the inauguration of Sovima Cricket Ground along with participating in the 7th Conclave of Northeast Cricket Development Committee.

 


The event was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland Shri. Neiphiu Rio, Associate Vice President Athletics Federation of India Shri Abu Metha, executives of Northeast and dignitaries. Northeastern states and it's children for the longest time have not had access to the opportunities and facilities. Therefore such meetings serve to encourage growth, learning and sharing amongst the members. These are the very pillars on which NECDC was formed, a means to not just represent each one of us collectively but to encourage unity amongst our northeastern states

 

“Hon’ble Chief Minister Nagaland Shri Neiphiu Rio has been a driving factor and has played an integral role in the existence of Northeast Cricket Development Committee. He  has given us shelter when we needed one and has offered his guidance when we were lost.”  said SICA President Shri  Lobzang  G. Tenzing.  SICA would also like to thank Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) for having us and would like to again congratulate the entire NCA team for a  fantastically organised event.

I was not born when Sikkim got merged with the mighty Indian Union, but being a student of Sikkim History, all that is available to me is a rack of books by different authors and those old folks who had been part of that historical “April ‘73’ Agitation”.  When I go through the history of Sikkim, April ‘73 Agitation holds an important role, mostly as the turning point of the Independent Sikkim and the Sikkim State. The mass demonstrations against the Chogyal rule shocked the 300-year-old monarchy system and ushered in democratic rule in Sikkim.  The agitation was a result “due to big differences which ensued with the demand of repoll in one booth by Kazi Lhendup Dorji and Mr. Krishna Chandra Pradhan, as such the Chogyal had to face the people’s agitation launched by the Joint Action Committee with the tacit blessings of the Government of India.
