Inter House Reading Competition held at Sakyong Chisopani JHS

08.04.22: Sakyong Chisopani JHS organized an Inter House Reading Competition for both the students of Primary and Upper Primary on the occasion of the last day of the 100 days Reading Campaign.

Shital Pradhan, IC of the school interacted with the students regarding the benefits of 100 days reading campaign event. Students’ feedback was collected. The students echoed that the reading campaign had made a major impact on their studies. They feel more comfortable going through their lessons. They even thanked the teachers for correcting them in the videos they used to send during the holidays.

Two students each from the four houses participated in both categories of the reading competition. All the teaching staff and students from classes 3 to classes 8 attended the event. Smriti Baraily and Namrata Rai representing Daffodil House were declared the winners of the junior categories while Samil Rai and Babyla Gurung were the winners of the senior category. 

Namrata Dewan, Bhawana Pandey, and Lokman Rai, teachers of the school spoke about the significance of reading habits and shared fundamental ideas to better it.

Sikkim Mahinda Thero: A national hero of Sri Lanka

Sikkim Mahinda Thero BY SHITAL PRADHAN I first heard about S Mahinda Thero in 2005 while in Kolkata when I was asked by one of the stamp dealers whether I was interested in a 20 paisa stamp of S Mahinda Thero issued by the Sri Lankan Postal Department in the early 1970s. I collected philatelic items on Buddhism, but I never understood who he was talking about. He told me, as I was from Sikkim, I might be interested to know more about the person, and he went on to add it was Sikkim Mahinda Thero, a Buddhist monk who is regarded as a national hero, a famous poet in the Sinhalese language whose poetry promoted patriotism and the revival of Buddhism to this part of the Island. He promised to send me the stamp of S Mahinda Thero from Colombo through the mail, but I have never heard from him since then.
