Fond Farewell to a Beloved Sakyong Chisopani JHS

03.07.23: With a heavy heart, I gather my thoughts to pen down these lines. Today marks the end of an era as I bid adieu to this beloved school. It seems like just yesterday when I embarked on this journey. Reflecting upon the last decade, I feel immense gratitude for the opportunities that came my way.

Along this path, I had the privilege of working with three exceptional Headmasters: Shri Mahesh Dahal, Shri Satish Chandra Pradhan, and Shri PB Subba, and senior teachers like Smt. Gita Pradhan, Shri DP Pandey, Shri LN Sharma, Shri TR Baniya, Shri CM Chettri, and Shri Arjun Chettri. Each of them imparted valuable wisdom over time, introducing me to different teaching approaches and the fundamental principles of school administration through our enriching conversations on uplifting the institution.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the guardians, parents, and families participating in this journey. Your unwavering support and trust in me have been the pillars of strength. To my dear students, you have brought so much joy and meaning to my life. Each of you holds a special place in my heart, and I will undoubtedly miss the cherished moments we shared together.

I cannot express enough appreciation for the incredible teaching and non-teaching staff who have graced this institution. Working alongside such talented and dedicated individuals has been a true privilege. Each person has taught me valuable lessons and offered unique perspectives, enriching my understanding of life's diverse tapestry. I am sincerely grateful to each one of them.

As I bid farewell, I earnestly hope that the spirit of cooperation and dedication towards the school will continue to thrive. The School Management Committees play a pivotal role, and I trust in their commitment to the growth and success of this institution. Now, as a new chapter begins, I embark on a different path.

Tomorrow, Mrs. Nirmala Sharma, one of the school's pillars, and I will join our new postings as the Headmaster of Dongeythang Primary School and the Headmistress of the Primary Section at Singtam SSS. We carry with us the memories and lessons from this school, which will forever shape our approach to education and administration.

To all of you, my dear friends, colleagues, students, parents, and well-wishers, I extend my deepest gratitude for the love, support, and togetherness you have bestowed upon me. I bid farewell to the school I have served for the last ten years with a mixture of emotions, but I am filled with optimism and excitement for the journey that lies ahead.

May this school continue to thrive and nurture young minds, guiding them towards a bright future? Farewell, my dear school, and thank you for being an integral part of my life's journey.

Those early man tools found in Sikkim!

--> Display of Neolithic tools recovered from Sajyong, 2003 (Weekend Review) BY SHITAL PRADHAN Not only is the Himalayan land of Sikkim old but it is also considered ancient. The archeological findings of different Neolithic tools in this part of the Himalayas over the last three decades speak of its antiquity. It may be of little importance to many. However, findings of various Neolithic tools from the remote pockets in Sikkim over the past five decades have still collected vivid interest in people beyond this region. On three separate occasions, Neolithic tools had been dug out from Sikkim, and that unfolded the age of this Himalayan mountain land much against the period we were supposed to. “The term Neolithic Period, or New Stone Age, defines the second period, at the beginning of which ground and usually polished rock tools, notably axes, came into widespread use after the adoption of a new technique of stone working. The beginning of the Neolithic...

History on Easter Sunday and Padari Ganga Prasad Pradhan

By Seira Tamang As noted by various scholars, Hinduism, the Nepali language, the monarchy and a rastriya itihas (a chronicle of progress in which the dark era of Rana rule is contrasted with the enlightened, progressive and modern period of Panchayat rule) formed the core of the Panchayat regime’s national culture. The formation and consolidation of this national culture have required the expunging of uncomfortable facts and stories that might raise ambiguities and questions. While the selection of what and who is and is not acknowledged to exist (or at least exist in historically important ways) in official Nepali history is complex, social scientists have begun to provide more comprehensive historical accounts of the past through oral histories and re-readings of historical documents. Such accounts reveal how ordinary people lived in the past, and offer ways to think through how ‘history’ is crafted, shaped and managed in order to reflect ‘the reality’ best suited to the status quo, ...

Shapi of Sikkim: Our legacy -iii

A Sikkimese with a Shapi The two previous articles I wrote in my earlier edition on Shapi were wonderful to read for people around, and appreciation had been received from different corners of the state. I am thankful and find pleasure in people finding joy in my findings and research work. It was a bit surprising that very few had heard about Shapi, our rare legacy.  Nevertheless, I am happy to be part of history for re-introducing Shapi to those sections of my readers who had never heard about this old and sacred mountain mammal, a native of Sikkim. I dedicate my writing on Shapi to Ongden Daju (RO), who has been very supportive of me ever since I first published its first part a few months back. It was he who wanted me to continue with the third part of Shapi since more findings were evolving after my two writings. I shall always remain grateful to JR Subba, Jt Director from the Forest Department, for providing me with a valuable census report of Shapi done by the Department...
