Singtam’s Chess Stars Shine at Kalimpong Tournament; East Point SSS Secures School Runner-Up Trophy

11.08.26, Singtam: Young chess players from Knight Chess Academy, Singtam delivered an outstanding performance at the Inter-School Monsoon Chess Tournament held at St. Augustine’s School, Kalimpong. Further, the girls from East Point SSS went on to clinch the runners-up trophy in school category. The highly competitive event drew strong participation from across the neighbouring hill region, featuring over 200 students representing more than 15 schools.



Leading the achievements two young boys dominated their divisions to capture top honours. Aarav Pradhan secured the 1st position in the Under-11 Boys' category, while Suyog Shital Pradhan clinched 1st position in the Under-13 Boys' category, showcasing exceptional strategic skill on the board.

The podium success extended across multiple age brackets for the local contingent. In the Under-15 Girls' category, Devanshiba Zala took 1st position, closely followed by Manasvi Acharya in 2nd position. In the Under-13 Girls' category, Aadya Lama earned 2nd position. Adding to the tally in the Under-11 division, Palak Agarwal claimed 2nd position in the Girls' category, while Abhirudhra Kumar and Agasthya Kumar Singh secured 4th and 5th positions respectively in the Boys' category.

The impressive sweep of accolades highlights the dedication of the players and the guidance of their mentor. Special congratulations were extended to Coach Rohit Gurung of the Knight Chess Academy, Singtam, for his support and coaching.

The late Jungkyang Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal, seated with his mother Queen Mother Denzong Lhayumkusho, daughter of Rakasha family of Tibet, and Prince Wangchuk whose late mother hails from the Samdrup Phodrang family of Tibet. Standing next to Denzong Queen Mother is the senior Rakasha Lhachamkusho, daughter of Raja Tsodrak Namgyal Taring of Sikkim, the eldest son of Chogyal Thutop Namgyal, who gave up the Sikkimese throne to his younger brother Sir Chogyal Tashi Namgyal in favour of staying in Tibet.  The Taring family of Tibet enabled into Tibetan high society by the great 13th Dalai Lama, is legitimately the unbroken elder line of the Royal Namgyal lineage of Sikkim, since Raja Tsodrak Namgyal was the Crown Prince of Sikkim, and his sons and grandsons today go by the Taring family name. JANHA BAGCHA TEESTA RANGIT

This was a national song of Sikkim sung in the Nepali language during the monarchy system. During the merger with India, the song got banned and later re-released. Two words on the 8th para, which earlier said 'Rajah rah Rani,' were replaced with "Janmah bhumi."     This song was dedicated to the King and Queen of Sikkim.
