I believe I am not sounding erratic with such headlines as "Shital Pradhan....the cricketer", but this is one part of my life that made sacrifices for what I am today. A cricket loss was a history's gain. I used to believe I was born to play cricket, all that I did for most of my initial years was eat cricket, play cricket, think cricket and sleep cricket.  Until one fine morning, I realised that it was not my inner satisfaction that I need to fulfil but I am born to do things that no one dares to flip over and that was.....to shake up our past from the wheel of the clock. Thus my unknown journey towards unwinding Sikkim's history began. But today, I want to speak more about cricket, which was my first love.   I am yet to watch this movie 2012 that has been simultaneously released at Denzong Cinema Hall at Gangtok. All the prophesies related to the 2012 mass hysteria do give me an excitation that if ( what a big if )... it really happens how do we react to it? Just look at the film poster that has a Buddhist monk standing tall and watching the hills being drowned in the mighty waters. This imaginary work of art is simply outstanding. This is one such event I believe that has captured the minds of people across the globe and such a thing was last heard when the fake news of the people of Mars attacking the Earth spread out some fifty years back. But this time around are we prepare to just call this hysteria..nothing than a noise.

by Hira Chettri Kalimnews, 14 Nov : On the occasion of Children Day Hamro Bhavishya Bal Sanstha of 14th Mile, Echhey Busty, Kalimpong organised 83rd episode of monthly literary programme Basibiyalo. Tshering Bhutia, a young and energetic literature lover of the locality read out the code of conduct of the programme as usual and the new and old literary figures like Bishnu Bhujel, Samsher Ali, Jangey Tamang, Dr. Kamal Pokhrel, Gyan Sutar, Hira Chhetri, Capt (Retd) Bhumiraj Rai, Tulshi Ojha recited their creative poems and short stories. By presenting a self composed song about the beauty of Darjeeling Himalayan Railways, B.K. Shilal added the extra attraction to the programme.  It was decided in the programme to organise the next 84th episode of the monthly programme on second saturday of December at Pudung Busty. SINGTAM: NT Bhutia, Headmaster of Burung Primary School along with his other school staffs paid tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minster of India on his 120 th birth anniversary. A small function was organised that was followed by distribution of sweets and meal among the students at the school premises.    The day started with the lightening of the diya and the offering of a khada to the frame of Pandit Nehru.  NT Bhutia while addressing to the students spoke of the significance of the day and the fond relation that Pandit Nehru had with the children.  Uttam Siwakoti, the senior teacher of the school in his speech gave a brief outline of Pandit Nehru. It is noted that the birth anniversary of Pandit Nehru is celebrated as Children Day throughout the nation. Today I will talk about an old 1957 Hindi Classic film Madhumati, directed by Bimal Roy, a legend of  Indian cinema.  This black and white film had Dilip Kumar, Vijayanthimala, Johnny Walker, Pran, and Jayant in the lead role and is regarded as one of the milestones in Hindi cinema. I have seen this movie on television a couple of times and enjoyed it. The idea of this film has over the decades inspired many other hit films including Rishi Kapoor's Karz and Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om. The exciting part of the movie for me is not the acting skills of the great actors assembled nor the story that had been long talked about but one song that stayed with me in my mind for a long time. So far it is well and fine but the thing i want people to go through is one of the songs that has stayed with me for a long time.  Scene from the Play 1 The Nepali play “Raj Kumar Namgyal” presented by the threatre group of Srijana Sewa Samity, Sakyong is drawing rave reviews from the crowds of Surat, Gujarat. The ‘play’ inspired from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet represents Sikkim at the ongoing Octave-09, a cultural festival held at Surat. The play is directed by Bipin Kumar. After successfully conducting a mobile theatre tour in Sikkim conducting shows around places like Pakyong, Soreng, Namchi, Geyzing and Gangtok, the Nepali play “Raj Kumar Namgyal” had left for the festival. The show is done in collaboration with National School of Drama, New Delhi.                                                            ...
