    Is there any sentiment today among the people of Sikkim for regaining their independence? Is there any support for restoring the monarchy? Or are the people content with their present status as a state of India?

    I write this as an American who wishes to learn more about Sikkim.

    By the way this is not the first time India grab other people's land. Tibetans were victims of India aggression too.

    "In October 1947, they [the Tibetans] formally requested India to return their territory from Ladakh to Assam, and including Sikkim. The Indians in return simply asked Tibet to continue the relationship on the basis of the previous British Government." see pg 7 of India's China war by Neville Maxwell.

    Again,

    "In response to the protests of the Tibetan authorities in Lhasa, the Indian officials stated that India was taking over Tawang. The Tibetans protested again that they "deeply regret and absolutely cannot accept” what the Indian government "seizing as its own what did not belong to it." The Indian government ignored the protests, forced the Tibetan administration out, and stayed on in Tawang, as the British did in Dirang Dzong in 1944." see pg 8 of India's China war by Neville Maxwell.

    By the way India aggression to her neighbors is not confined to Sikkim. China is a victim too. But China is big enough to defend herself, unlike Sikkim. Please listen to this podcast, also from Neville Maxwell, author of India's China War:

This was a national song of Sikkim sung in the Nepali language during the monarchy system. During the merger with India, the song got banned and later re-released. Two words on the 8th para, which earlier said 'Rajah rah Rani,' were replaced with "Janmah bhumi."     This song was dedicated to the King and Queen of Sikkim. Young chess champions shine at the Lt. Shanker Lamichaney chess tournament 2026

The Lt. Shanker Lamichaney Chess Tournament 2026 was held on June 7, 2026, at Singtam. 40 players participated in the tournament and showed great strategic skills across five competitive rounds. In the Under-18 age category, Aarav Pradhan secured the 1st position, followed by Arnav Rai in 2nd place, and Suyog Shital Pradhan in 3rd place, with all three top achievers remaining unbeaten throughout the entire tournament. In the Under-11 age category, the top spot was claimed by Sufiyan Nasim, while Yedhant Agarwal took the 2nd position, and Palak Agarwal finished strong in 3rd position. The event was organized at Euphoria Restaurant, Singtam, in collaboration with the Knight Chess Academy Singtam. To support the young local talents of Singtam, the tournament was sponsored by the family of Lt. Shanker Lamichaney – Mrs. Devika Lamichaney (his wife) and sons – Ashish Lamichaney and Anand Lamichaney. Notably, this is the very first time a chess tournament has been hosted inside a restaurant...

Sikkim has, or had, a flag of white with a red border all round, and a yellow Chakra (fimbriated in red) in the centre."  "...the Chakra [is] a Buddhist symbol representing the Law of Dharma , or eternal change."
