FIVE- DAY BHARAT NIRMAN CAMPAIGN BEGINS AT PAKYONG

PAKYONG, 19 FEBRUARY, 2008 : Minister of Agriculture, Government of Sikkim, Shri Somnath Poudyal said there is a need for awareness of government programmes for the benefit of the villages. Speaking as the Chief Guest Shri Poudyal stressed on the need to increase their potential as there is no dearth of opportunities for livelihood. He said there are no fund constraints for executing development projects but the capacity to absorb them has to be increased. Stating that the state government has already taking steps for all round development, the Minister added the people have to participate in the process. He called on the Panchayat to make full use of the various sessions of the Public Information Campaign so as to be aware and make full benefit of the various schemes of the government.

In his address, Press Advisor to the Chief Minister Shri B B Gooroong stressed on the importance of Right to Information Act. He said the Panchayat and people should be aware of the different allocation to the different departments and make sure that the benefits reach the intended people without leakages. Shri Gooroong stressed on the responsibility of the Panchayats saying that once they are elected they should be aware of the various programmes which people can avail of, at the same time see that the projects are implemented properly.

Shri Bhim Dhungel MLA Rhenock, Shri Kunga Zangpo Bhutia, MLA , Assam Lingzey also addressed the gathering. Loosing Pacheykhani MLA, Smt Manita Mangar and other dignitaries were also present at the function.This is the 4th Bharat Nirman Campaign organised by Press Information Bureau, Gangtok in collaboration with AIR, DFP, DAVP, Song & Drama Division of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.(PIB)
