Annual Day Celebration held at Posakay Primary School


Dalapchand: Posakay Primary School observed its annual day function in a colorful and cultural manner on December 21.  Present on the occasion was Dhiraj Pradhan BDO Regu BAC, Chador Bhutia, AD HRDD/Regu BAC, Deepak Rai, AEO HRDD, NK Pradhan, Zilla member, Tashi Topgay, HM Chujachen SSS, Girdari Dawari, HM Chandaney PS, and others. Posakay School’s students along with students of Chujachen SSS and Lunchok PS presented colourful cultural extravaganza.  

The day's highlight was the felicitation of Tshewang Choden Sherpa, Primary Teacher, and Singer Remanti Rai. Annual Prize distributions for the students and for the guardians were also conducted on the day. The guardians' performance in guiding their children was also honoured. Some of the categories in which the guardians were given prizes included Best All-Round Student, Best Discipline Student, Best Attendance Student, and others.


Amrit Thakuri, Headmaster of Pasakay PS, hosted the day and also delivered the welcome speech. NK Pradhan, a Primary Teacher, presented the school's annual report for the 2011 session. He read that the school opened with 14 new students, taking the total enrolment to 72, which was followed by the re-admission of three dropout students.

The school has two sets of computers, one provided by the Department and the other purchased by the school with its own effort. The school had two teachers at the start of the session, which was followed by the addition of the three newly appointed teachers, taking the teacher's strength to five, he read.

Celebrations of Independence Day, Teacher's Day, Children's Day, National Education Day, health programs, school excursions, and others were also discussed. Grievances of the school were placed before that included a lack of playground, shortage of classroom and furniture, the problem of fuel and Utensils for the Midday Meal, scarcity of water supply, and separate toilets for teachers.

Tshewang Choden Sherpa, primary teacher and one of the founder teachers of the school, was felicitated for her contribution towards the development of the school. She has presented a khada and a certificate of appreciation from the hand of Dhiraj Pradhan, BDO Regu BAC, Chief Guest of the day. Also felicitated on the day was North East Ke Superstar winner Remanti Rai.

In his speech, Chador Bhutia, AD, HRDD, Regu BAC expressed happiness and congratulated the school Headmaster and his staff for the school's performance. He assured the gathered audience to solve the toilet and furniture requirements of the school. He also announced the sanction of the amount for the additional school classroom.


He further informed me about the HCM Merit Scholarship for Class V topper local students. He clarified that the student eligible for the scholarship should have studied at a government school since its initial stage. He discussed the “Right To Education” and requested parents and students to take it positively. The Residential Bridge Course for dropout students at Khamdong for the students of East Sikkim was also informed.

In his speech, Dhiraj Pradhan, BDO Regu BAC, appreciated the success story of Posakay Primary School and credited the school, which opened just a couple of years back, as an exemplary school in the entire Sikkim. He appreciated the hard work of Amrit Thakuri, the Headmaster of the school, and his staff for making it possible. He assured that he would solve the grievances of the school placed before him.

North East Ke Superstar winner Remanti Rai, Swar Sikkim winner Milan Sharma, and Namchi Mahotsav winner Prakash Sundas enthralled the audiences with melodious songs at the evening musical program.

On that day, Sikkim Citizens, Subject holder (Sikkimese) became Indian Citizen according to “Sikkim (Citizenship) Order, 1975” which says “Every person who immediately before the 26th day of April, 1975 was a Sikkim Subject under the Sikkim Subject Regulation 1961, shall be deemed to have become a citizen of India on that day”. As the Indian Constitution does not provide dual citizenship and there exist only citizenship for the whole of country, therefore, the regulation which provided Sikkim Citizenship (Subjects) commonly known as “Sikkim Subject Regulation Act, 1961” was repealed on 13th Sep 1975 according to “Adaptation of Sikkim Laws (No.1) Order” power conferred by clause (l) of Article 371-F of the Constitution which took effect from 26th April 1975 (appointed day). The last Chogyal (King) of Sikkim

BY SHITAL PRADHAN I was not born when Sikkim became the 22nd state of the Indian Union, and the only information I have about the political identity of my Sikkim comes from literary knowledge and conversations with elderly people. I personally believe that no nation can develop unless its history, culture, and heritage are preserved. Sikkim, though now part of India, bears the responsibility of every Sikkimese to safeguard its past glory. Interestingly, a few days ago, my college-going nephew surprised me when he mentioned that a man named STNM could be the last Chogyal, while one of my colleagues added that TNA and TNSSS also bear the name of the last Chogyal.
