Award function at Tadong School

Meena Rani Mukhia award ceremony was organized at Tadong Government Senior Secondary school on 3rd of December 2011, Saturday. This was the initiative taken by former principal of Tadong government senior secondary school to felicitate the top students of each class. And also the entire programme was sponsored by Mrs. Meena Rani Mukhia former principal of Tadong Sr. Sec. School. In the event class topper of every classes starting from class – i   to class – xii were awarded with a certificate and cash prize. As Mrs. Meena Rani Mukhia takes a bit more interest in the girl education she also had also initiated an award “best girl of Tadong School”. The criterion for “best girl of school” is, she must be studying in the school since the pre-primary level and the same was awarded to Miss Dil Kumari who studied in Tadong School for almost 13 years.
In the programme area councilor Mr. Prabhat Gurung was also present. present in the event was Mrs. Doma L. Zimba, Principal of Tadong SSS, members of school managing committee, teachers, parents of the award winning students and all the students of the school. The programme was started with a welcome speech of Mrs. Doma L. Zimba, Principal, Tadong govt. sec. school. Mrs. Zimba welcomed the chief guest of the event Mrs. Meena Rani Mukhia and expressed her happiness to have Meena Madam back in the school area councilor Mr. Prabhat Gurung also addressed the gathering and said that is was a wonderful idea to encourage the students in their academic field. He congratulated and expressed his thanks to former principal Mrs. Meena Rani Mukhia for coming out with such a great idea to felicitate the top students of the school which will indeed encourage the students. He also congratulated the present principal of Tadong School Mrs. Doma L. Zimba for her contribution towards the school. Mr. Gurung also thanked former principal for her great and all round contribution towards the school and said he will always be positive if the school management needs any kind of help from his part. He congratulated all the award winning students. Lastly he appealed all the students to take the right benefit of the facilities provided by the government.
Former Principal Mrs. Meena Rani Mukhia in her address expressed her happiness for being present in the school. “I worked for almost 20 years in this school, so I feel like I am at home” Mrs. Mukhia added. She expressed her gratitude to all the teachers and the present principal of the school Mrs. Doma L. Zimba. She also said that she will be continuing to sponsor the award every year. She and urged the students to stay away from bad companies and to be a good and a responsible citizen.
The programme was also addressed by the parent representative Mr. John Lepcha; Dil Kumari Tamang the title winner for best girl of Tadong School, and Mrs. Ethenpa, vice chairman, school managing committee also addressed the gathering representing the school managing committee.
The whole event was conducted by Mr. Jeewan Rai. The programme was followed by various colorful cultural events and performance by the students of the school. Sujan, Prasant, Kundan, Ashish, Bhagawati and troop from class xii presented their songs. Dil Kumari Tamang and group presented her dance. Nimesh Chettri and Bimal Neopaney read out their poems. Students of class xii presented a group song written and composed by Mr. Deoraj Sharma, PGT Nepali of Tadong School. Mrs. KD. Bhutia, vice principal concluded the programme with her vote of thanks. Event was followed by lunch.

On that day, Sikkim Citizens, Subject holder (Sikkimese) became Indian Citizen according to “Sikkim (Citizenship) Order, 1975” which says “Every person who immediately before the 26th day of April, 1975 was a Sikkim Subject under the Sikkim Subject Regulation 1961, shall be deemed to have become a citizen of India on that day”. As the Indian Constitution does not provide dual citizenship and there exist only citizenship for the whole of country, therefore, the regulation which provided Sikkim Citizenship (Subjects) commonly known as “Sikkim Subject Regulation Act, 1961” was repealed on 13th Sep 1975 according to “Adaptation of Sikkim Laws (No.1) Order” power conferred by clause (l) of Article 371-F of the Constitution which took effect from 26th April 1975 (appointed day). The last Chogyal (King) of Sikkim

BY SHITAL PRADHAN I was not born when Sikkim became the 22nd state of the Indian Union, and the only information I have about the political identity of my Sikkim comes from literary knowledge and conversations with elderly people. I personally believe that no nation can develop unless its history, culture, and heritage are preserved. Sikkim, though now part of India, bears the responsibility of every Sikkimese to safeguard its past glory. Interestingly, a few days ago, my college-going nephew surprised me when he mentioned that a man named STNM could be the last Chogyal, while one of my colleagues added that TNA and TNSSS also bear the name of the last Chogyal. Well, is this the future of Sikkim? If we cannot enable the younger generation to connect with the facts and authenticity of Sikkim, the state will surely lose its vivacious historical pages.
