Files his nomination from Namchi and Poklok Kamrang

Namchi, March 25: India’s longest serving Chief Minister, Shri Pawan Chamling filed his nomination today in Namchi, South Sikkim for his candidature in the upcoming elections. Shri Chamling is contesting from Namchi Singithang and from Poklok Kamrang in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Chamling, who has been serving the people of Sikkim since 1994, is the longest serving CM of India and is seeking a record sixth term for his party, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) in the upcoming election.

For this, the SDF party has launched various campaigns over the past few weeks which are highly innovative, tech-savvy and people-centric incorporating campaign strategies adopted by the SDF to engage with the people. On 23rd March, the Party launched “Ma Pani Chamling” – the party’s campaign to build an inclusive manifesto capturing people’s aspirations for the upcoming Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha Polls. As part of the campaign, the SDF will attempt to engage 4 Lakh people across Sikkim to seek their suggestions which will be reflected in the party’s election manifesto. It will adopt various mediums in order to solicit feedback from the masses. The party will also seek suggestions from various subject matter experts and specialists through different outreach programmes. The exercise is in line with party's philosophy of "Janta Raj Ma Jantai Raja" (people are kings in a democracy). In effect, the people of Sikkim will set the agenda of the government.

Earlier, the SDF party had launched the “MyFirstVote4Chamling” campaign on the occasion of Losar (5th February) to directly seek suggestions from first-time voters – the campaign has received over 27,000 suggestions till now. The Party President and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling had recently launched the SDF Pariwar campaign, a 10-day long door-to-door campaign directly interacting with 1 Lakh households across Sikkim to understand their aspirations, the resolution of which will be the priority of the SDF government. The campaign, through 15,000 SDF Pariwar Sahyodhas (SDF Pariwar Ambassadors) has reached over 55,000 households, establishing connect with 2 Lakh people, in 6 days.

In the last 10 days of campaigning, Chamling will be addressing 10 rallies starting 29th March. The election to the 32-member Sikkim Assembly is being held on 11th April alongside the Lok Sabha election.

Sikkim Philately at a glance-2

Ever since Sikkim became part of the Indian Union, four major state-level Philatelic exhibitions had been held organized by the Department of Post. Little is known about the first philatelic exhibition SIKKIMPEX-82 except that among the many participants on the exhibition one of the participants was Late Ganga Kaptan, a legendary figure in Nepali literature. The three-day exhibition had three special covers released. Sikkim Philately had to wait for two decades to have the next major exhibition. Twenty years later in 2002, a three-day exhibition was held at White Hall. It was for the first time the people of Sikkim took a keen interest in that gummed piece of paper.  Dr Pawan Kumar Chamling, the Chief Minister of Sikkim was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The exhibition was a huge success. The occasion helped introduce Dipok Dey, a renowned stamp designer from Kolkata and the only Indian to design a United Nations Stamp with the young and eager stamp collectors of the state. Amo...

Sikkim Government Allows Self-Attestation for Most Documents

In a citizen-friendly move to simplify administrative procedures, the Government of Sikkim, through a notification dated 6th August 2018 (No. 52/Home/2018), has allowed self-attestation of documents for most purposes. Issued by the Home Department and published in the Gazette on 11th August 2018, this notification aligns with the 12th report of the Second Administrative Reforms Commission, emphasising "Citizen Centric Administration – The Heart of Governance." Applicants can now submit self-attested copies of documents for admission in educational institutions and for employment in government departments, provided they can read and understand the documents. However, documents like the Sikkim Subject Certificate, Certificate of Identification, Residential Certificate, and Land Records still require verification by designated magistrates or gazetted officers from the Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department. The move is expected to reduce the burden on citizens and str...

Gyallu : The New Tibetan National anthem

Gyallu is the national anthem of Tibet. The anthem focuses on the radiance of Buddha. The words were written by Trijang Rinpoche around 1950 but it is unclear exactly when Tibet's anthem was first used, either while the country was still under the control of the Dalai Lama's administration or first adopted by the government in exile after the invasion by China. The earliest report of an anthem (presumably this one) is from the period of 1949 to 1950 (when the country was already facing the threat of a Chinese invasion), introduced under reforms set in place to strengthen patriotic feelings of the Tibetan people. Another report states that the anthem was presented to the 14th Dalai Lama in 1960, after he went into exile. Regardless of the adoption date, the melody is said to be based on a very old piece of Tibetan sacred music, and the lyrics by the Dalai Lama's tutor, Trijang Rinpoche. It has been used by Tibetans in exile ever since the introduction of the...
