Sikkim’s cricket captain Nilesh Lamichaney bags prestigious BDM sponsorship

Nilesh Lamichaney, Captain of the Sikkim Cricket Team, added another feather to his short cricket career when he grabbed an opportunity to sign a sponsorship contract with the famed BDM Company. B. D. Mahajan & Sons Private Limited, more popular as BDM, is the world-famous manufacturer of Cricket bats, Cricket Balls, & Cricket Batting pads from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. He now joins the league of players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ricky Pointing, and others.

Captian Nilesh would like to thank BDM, especially Aditya Mahajan and Sanjeev Sharma, through this press release. Nilesh says it was his century and a couple of half-centuries last season that helped him to promote himself on sponsorship. He said that the prestigious contract has given me more responsibility, and I am more focused on my game. He thanked Sanjeev Sharma, coach of Sikkim Cricket Team and former India seamer, for all the support and motivation. He further said he scored his first century in a National Level tournament playing for the U-15 category with a BDM bat. The sponsorship has given a strong and positive message that if you play with your heart and with dedication, it pays you back.

Adding to the recent performance of the Sikkim team at the Ranji Trophy, Nilesh said the winning habit was never easy, but thankfully, three professional players' performances helped the team’s spirit. They not only helped us win, but our players gained more confidence playing with them. Fielding had been the highlight of the tournament. We played to our best, and we wish to improve our performances in the coming season, he said.

I have been playing with this team since my U-15 days. I was given an opportunity to lead the team then, and since then, my captaincy has improved. The future of cricket at Sikkim is going to be the next big thing. The cricket stadium is on the line, and today, the youngsters can choose cricket as a career, he further added.

Paan Singh Tomar : A forgotten national hero

Paan Singh Tomar was a strange name for a Hindi film to me when I read about it in a newspaper a few months back.  The fact that I have been a fan of Irrfan Khan since his  Banegi Apni Baat  days made it obvious for me to watch this movie, and as the name suggested, I was sure I might have something very different to watch. Story of an athlete of a world-class, seven times national champions at Steeple Chase in the 50s and 60s, a participant at the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games and his journey as a “baaghi” as Irrfan Khan playing Paan Singh Tomar repeats in the movie is the backdrop of the story.  No doubt Paan Singh Tomar, the persona, is the winner of the movie, a sportsman who faded with time and, despite bringing laurels to the nation, was forced to rise against the law. This movie can be listed as one of the best movies by Irrfan Khan, and his natural acting has made Paan Singh Tomar live on screen.  The newspaper clip Paan Singh Tomar with his wife Indir...

Sikkim (India)   Image by Mario Fabretto Description of the flag Historical flags 1877 - c. 1914 c. 1914 - 1962 1962 - 1967 Description of the flag From Barraclough (1971):  "Sikkim, formerly a protectorate of India, was incorporated as the twenty-second state of the union in May 1975, and the office of the hereditary ruler, the Chogyal , was abolished. Sikkim has, or had, a flag of white with a red border all round, and a yellow Chakra (fimbriated in red) in the centre."  "...the Chakra [is] a Buddhist symbol representing the Law of Dharma , or eternal change." The Chakra on the flag of Sikkim is different then the one on India's flag. It has eight spokes rather than the many spokes on India's, and has an ornate "nub" on the wheel at the head of each spoke.
