Samvedna Coordination meet held at Singtam

  March 1, Singtam : The final coordination meeting for the upcoming Samvedna event was attended by NIFAA State Executive members, Krishna Chettri - President SGSS, Kripesh Singh - President KASS, TR Baniya - Lower Lingchey Uttam Samaj, Md Zamil - President United Front, Gangtok and others. The meet was held at Nepali Dharamsala, Singtam.   The major highlight of the meeting was talk on Samvedna, a nationwide blood and plasma donation awareness campaign. The campaign shall be held on March 23, 2021 in 28 states and 8 Union Territories of India. More than 90,000 units of blood is expected to be collected from 1500 different venues of India. The campaign is also for an attempt at Guinness Book of World Record, told Bikash Pradhan, Chief Coordinator, NIFAA Sikkim Unit. He further said the event commemorates the 90th anniversary of Martyrs' Day of Saheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. National Science Day celebrated at Chujachen SSS

March 1, Singtam : Chujachen Sr. Sec. School observed National Science Day on February 26, the school organised a science exhibition. Nirpath Gurung, Chairman of OBC along with Jag Maya Chettri, Principal CSSS kick started the program. Five schools from around the vicinity were invited, students from Lokdara, Posakay, Gyangyap, Rongli, Rolep and Chujachen exhibited a plethora of scientific models (self made).  Main motive behind this programme was to generate scientific temper among the students that even primary students from feeder school were invited to participate. Those students were taken to Atal Tinkering Lab. The students were told they can visit the lab at any time in future.  Miss Chettri stated that programs like these act as a launch pad for future researchers and scientists. Sikkim gets its first win at Vijay Hazare Trophy ; defeats Manipur by 8 wickets

The Senior Men’s Team of Sikkim is currently playing Vijay Hazare Trophy at Chennai and in their third match today at IC- Gurunanak College Ground; they trashed Manipur by 8 wickets and registered their first win in the tournament. Manipur won the toss and elected to bat first. In the first innings, they were all-out for 162 runs in 40.1 overs. Anureet Singh and Md Saptula took 3 wickets each, Anwesh Karan Sharma took 2 wickets and Varun Sood took 1 wicket. Md Saptula built the pressure on the opponent from the beginning by breaking the opening partnership and sending both the opening pairs back to the pavilion. In the second innings, Sikkim had a good start. Ashish Thapa scored 43 runs, Robin Bist 85 not-out, Nilesh Lamichaney 14 runs and Varun Sood remained not-out at 5 runs. The Great Khali to attend Sikkim's International MMA fight

 February 21, Singtam : The Great Khali, WWE Superstar and Sahil Khan, Bollywood actor and fitness icon is all set to visit Gangtok this April 17 to be part of the biggest International MMA fight night. The event is hosted by Indian Fight Night and organised by Team FITB 27 Event Head Bishal Chettri, Mr. Sikkim 2019 and owner FITB 27.  The official MMA T-shirt was released by The Great Khali at Film City, Mumbai on February 19, 2021. Team FITB 27 has thanked Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim for supporting and promoting the sport. International fighters, Indian fighters and fighters from Sikkim shall participate in this mega event, reads the press release.

Road Safety campaign observed by Chujachen SSS

  February 18, Singtam: Road Safety Month campaign was observed by Chujachen SSS at Rongli bazaar on February 17. Thirty students had participated in different activities held during the program.  Rally was held at Rongli bazaar where students shared important messages through placards. Road safety awareness skit was also performed by the students of Chujachen SSS. The students were escorted by following teachers – Sagar Rai, Ratan Tamang and Anita Sharma.  

Indian Cormorant rescued from Shantinagar Rani Khola

Singtam, February 17 : Arpan Pradhan, amateur biodiversity photographer from Shantinagar, Singtam rescued an Indian Cormorant from the fishing net thrown at the Rani Khola near Badminton Court, Shantinagar. He was returning home from the market; at the river Rani Khola, he saw two Indian Cormorants locally called Pani Haas taking a dip in the water. . Indian Cormorant is a winter bird that visits River Teesta at Singtam every year for fresh fish.  He took his mobile camera and started to film the interesting water moment of the birds, he found that one of the birds flew off as soon as he got close to them from the walkway. The other bird was floating on the water sometimes getting inside the water. Arpan Pradhan thought it to be the bird’s play until he found that the poor bird was trapped in a thrown-away fishing net. Sikkim Cricket Association comes up with Valentine's Day Special "Exhibition Match"

A Valentine's Day Special "Exhibition Match" was played between President XI and Secretary XI of Sikkim Cricket Association at SICA Ground, Rangpo today. President XI won the toss and choose to bat first. In the first innings, they scored 190 runs with the loss of 3 wickets in 25 overs. Prakash Lama scored 15 runs, Biwash Lamichaney 72, SICA President Lobzang G. Tenzing scored 31 runs, Bikash Pradhan 11 runs, Vice President Karma Geley Bhutia 5 runs, Sonam Palden Bhutia 6 runs not-out and Gopal Gupta 17 runs not-out.
