My Memories of Prashant Tamang

11.01.26: I am saddened to hear the news of the passing of Prashant Tamang. My association with him started during his Indian Idol days, when I had a blog dedicated to him. Since 2007, we remained in touch with each other, and I received a final call from him a few months ago while I was undergoing treatment in Vellore.

He was always cheerful and well disciplined, and his humility and gentle way of speaking touched everyone around him. I closely followed his film career, including 'Angalo Yo Maya Ko' and 'Kina Maya Ma', and even personally visited his film shoots. I was also fortunate to be invited to his marriage ceremony.

This is indeed a personal loss for me. I will always cherish his warmth and happy moment we shared.

Risley, in his book, “The Gazetteer of Sikkim (1884), while reflecting the total population of Sikkim, mentioned ‘Rai’ , ‘Khambu’ and ‘Jimdar’ as different communities, but in reality, these terms denote a single community, which is now, popularly known as Rai community. Rai is also known as Kirata, Khambu, and Jimdar. The term Kirata has a wider connotation and is also found in Puran, Upadnishad, or the old Vedas. It covers Rai, Limbu, Sunwar, Gurung, Manger, Tamang, and others, but only the Rai community uses this term. As per the census of Sikkim in 1884, the total strength of the Rai community was in third position, but Mr. Risley put it at random owing to the reason mentioned already. Snake like fish caught in Singtam River

The Indian mottled eel, locally known as Raj Bam, was recovered from the Singtam River at Golitar this early morning. The snake-like fish weighed around 7 kg and was four feet long. The local people said that they had never seen this species for so long. Such mysterious-looking marine fish are also sighted from time to time on the river banks, local people added.
