I believe in between our quest to know more about our Sikkim..i believe we need to know people, places and cultures of our state, so from this time i would like to share photographs just to help people get familiar with them...

Clue: He was the first individual from Sikkim to be knighted.

    He is Sir Tashi Namgyal, how can one forget the school where we completed our higher secondary i.e. Sir Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School, Gangtok.

    He is Chogyal Thutob Namgyal, the hare lipped Maharaja, whose eldest son Raja Tsodrak Namgyal was sent off to Lhasa before the British invasion.

    Yes he is Sir Thutob Nmagyal and i believe he was the fourth Chogyal of the Namgyal Lineage.He did had a hip lip and for this physical deformity he was quite perplexed. This is corroborated by the fact that when Sir thotob Namgyal and his Gyalmo visted Calcutta on diplomtic tour he let his minsiter deal all the official chores. His reign did see the advent of europeans particularly the Britsh intrusion into the sikkimese political scenario during the early 19th century.

    The hair lipped Maharaja is none other than the father of Crown Prince Raja Tsodrak Namgyal.

JANHA BAGCHA TEESTA RANGIT

This was a national song of Sikkim sung in the Nepali language during the monarchy system. During the merger with India, the song got banned and later re-released. Two words on the 8th para, which earlier said 'Rajah rah Rani,' were replaced with "Janmah bhumi."     This song was dedicated to the King and Queen of Sikkim. Rongli my birthplace

BY SHITAL PRADHAN A small hamlet in an eastern side Silent raush on its way, The old silk route, More older it look Upon which I stay, Hey that’s Rongli, Rongli my birthplace Years went by, years dried up, Yet the small village is as it was, Silent, peaceful and introvert Today’s picture of Rongli, Houses as station bogie, Looks a cradle, from Chujachen, Upon which the blue sky, As if I can touch thee, Roaring River, As the legend we hear, Still watch with glee, The terror of 1890 somewhat forgotten, Yet another terrorizing moment, 68 was the year… 1968, When sky too wasn’t pleased. That was Rongli, Rongli of the past. Playing along the Baar-Pepal tree, Hiding in the Shivalaya, Watching videos and aloft Is a decent memory, now? Sweet time in treasure, Yet when I am in Rongli, I am happy, in whither sweet. Rongli my birthplace !
