SINGTAM: In a gala ceremony, Singtam Newar Sangathan felicitated the five members of the Singtam Nagar Panchayats at Marwari Dharamsala today. The event witnessed by huge crowd included other communities too. Am Prasad, MLA Khamdong – Singtam was the chief guest on the occasion that also had other distinguished guests in RK Pradhan, President Sikkim Newar Guthi, Jas Lal Pradhan, Arjuna Awardee, members of Singtam Newar Sangathan and Prakash Sundas as guest Singer from Gangtok.

This was the first occasion in the state that Nagar Panchayats were felicitated, The Singtam Nagar Panchayats included Sharvan Kumar Pradhan (President), Meena Kumari Chettri, Bishnu Maya Sherpa, Anita Tamang and Ram Naresh Prasad. All of the Singtam Nagar Panchayats thanked the members of the Singtam Newar Sangathan on the occasion and vowed to work for the betterment of the people of this region. They voiced that the felicitation shall encourage them for duties towards society. 

The function also marked the first cultural presentation of the famed Lakhey Dance of Newar community performed by Bikash Pradhan from Namthang at Singtam. The beautiful masked dance was much appreciated by the crowds. Prakash Sundas, the local singer from Gangtok who that participated at this year Indian Idol and had advanced to 3rd round also enthralled the crowds with his soothing voice.

Speaking on the occasion, Am Prasad Sharma congratulated the Singtam Newar Sangathan for their efforts in organizing such events. RK Pradhan, President Sikkim Newar Guthi appreciated the works of Singtam Newar Sangathan and expressed his happiness that some work has been going on towards conserving out culture and community at Singtam. Pradhan added he shall be taking many positive things from the function he had witnessed. Jas Lal Pradhan, YB Pradhan and others also thanked and congratulated Singtam Newar Sangathan on the occasion. Mohan Pradhan, General Secretary Singtam Newar Kalyan Sangathan on the occasion said he is pleased to have conducted such a great function; he thanked everyone present on the occasion. He further said Singtam Newar Kalyan Sangathan is making efforts and in days to come many more functions on promoting the diverse culture of Newars are on the line. TB Pradhan, President Singtam Newar Kalyan Sangathan also thanked everyone on the grand success of the program.
