Spiritual awareness programme at Chujachen Sr. Sec. School

Keeping in view the degrading moral values among young generations, their involvements in drug abuse and increasing suicidal tendency a spiritual awareness programme was organised at Chujachen Sr. Sec. School, East Sikkim on May 29.  The programme was organised by  Chujachen  School in the initiative of the Government and HRD Department and monitored by Joint Director, HRDD East.

The programme was attended by Hon'ble MLA, 20  Chujachen cum Chief Whip Bikram Pradhan, Hon’ble Adhakshya East District Zilla Panchayat  Bimal Dawari, Joint Director HRDD East Sonam Denzongpa , SDM Rongli  Narendra Chettri, Dy Director HRDD  Rongli Sub-Division Dorjee Sherpa, GVA Regu Sabindra Rai, Coordinator Krishna Pd. Dawari, Panchayats, SMDC, SMC, local youths, and  Principal, Staff and students.

The programme started with the lighting of the lamp followed by a welcome address by the Principal of the School Tashi Topgey Bhutia. Joint Director HRDD,  East highlighted the importance of the programme and introduced resource person  Rohit Raj Maharaj. He informed that such awareness programmes are being conducted in other Senior Secondary Schools also. 

Hon’ble Area MLA cum Chief Whip urged the students to maintain positive life skills and  made the gathering aware about the different schemes  of state government on educational sector. He also declared to provide a financial assistance of Rs 50000/ for Volleyball Court development of the school. The   Hon’ble Adhakshya EDZP also addressed the gathering.

Through power point presentation, the resource person made the gathering aware of the importance of human values, the harmful effects of drug abuse and its control,  growing  suicidal tendency among youth- reasons and its control through spiritual enlightenment. 

During the programme, the School also felicitated the resource person Maharaj for his selfless service in orienting youths towards the right path. The programme was conducted by Radhika Sharma and concluded with the vote of thanks by Pramod Pradhan PGTs of the school. After the Programme Hoh’ble MLA along with Hon’ble Adhakshya, Rohit Raj Maharaj and Officers laid foundation stone of Volleyball court at the school premises.

LENDUP DORJEE KHANGSARPA : The First Chief Minister of Sikkim (1975-1979)

Popularly known as L. D. Kazi, became the first Chief Minister of Sikkim in 1975 thus ending over three century old monarchy system. He became the 1st Chief Minister of Sikkim on 14 MAY, 1975 - 17 AUGUST, 1979. He was born in 1904 in Pakyong, East District. A fonuder President of Sikkim Praja Mandal, established in 1946. Later he became the President of Sikkim State Congress and held the post till 1958. In 4th general election held in 1970, Kazi was appointed an Executive Councilor and was assigned the portfolio of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Transport Authority. Under his presidency in 1973, the united party secured 31 out of 32 seats of State Assembly and became the first Chief Minister of Sikkim in 1974. He was married to Elisa-Maria Standford in 1968, daughter of a Belgian father and German mother who left her Scottish husband in Burma and married LD Kaji in Delhi in 1957.
