APNS met bankers and acknowledged them

SINGTAM, APRIL 30: Singamari, a Darjeeling-based hobby-promoting organization, Alpine Philatelic and Numismatic Society (APNS) set out their second phase of appreciating the Covid-19 warriors. With the motive of thanking the unsung warriors of the current situation, they met and acknowledged the Bankers and the Banking Sector on the 28th of April 2020.


The backbone of any economy – the BANKS has been functional throughout the lockdown. APNS visited the UCO Bank, Bank of India, and Allahabad Bank in Darjeeling and thanked them for their services. The management and employees were handed out gloves, masks, sanitizers, khadas, and Tokens of Gratitude.  


‘The bankers had been risking their lives and serving the society equally as the other front line warriors. The situation of our people would have been worse if they were not functioning but they had not been acknowledged so far’ said Vivek Yonzone, the founder and Secretary of APNS.

‘Our Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Modi has announced various schemes to help the needy and funds are being deposited into various PMGKY and Jan Dhan accounts. It is the bankers who have been delivering them; carrying out the plan and making the relief plan a success. They are a vital sector in the fight against Covid-19’, he added.



Mr. Proshanta Majumder, Mr. Bicky Dewan, and Mr. Puran Subba managers of UCO Bank, Bank of India, and Allahabad Bank respectively, received the tokens and the gifts from the Society. They expressed their gratitude for being thanked and acknowledged. ‘We are very thankful, we feel motivated and forget all the troubles of restricted transport, working under restriction when we are recognized for the work we have been doing’ said Mr. Biky Dewan. 



Mr. Puran Subba thanked the Society for the acknowledgment and said that they would continue to serve in the days to come. Ms. Lopamudra Jha, the assistant manager of UCO Bank, and Mr. Majumder also thanked the Secretary. “We know that we are at risk but this is the best time to do something for the people, the country along with the other covid warriors' said Mr. Majumder. 

‘Bankers not just in Darjeeling but all over India needs a special mention and so we would like to thank not just the 3 banks we visited but through them would like to thank the entire Banking Sector in the country’ said Yonzone, his move being motivated by a Facebook comment by Resu Pradhan, a former banker from Sikkim on a post regarding the prior efforts of the Society.

It is more or less a forgotten part of the development process of the then-small Himalayan kingdom, Sikkim . The introduction of the coinage system in Sikkim ceased the way it started.
