Shantinagar Ward Sabha concludes

Singtam, December 7: A short Shantinagar Ward Sabha meeting was held at Badminton Court near Ranikhola Walkway. The meet was held maintaining the health and safety protocol. Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS was the chairperson of the meet. The program was attended by Deepa Chettri, Panchayat, Shantinagar Ward, LN Pradhan, Chief Advisor, Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti, PP Upretti, Vice President, SGSS, Arun Lama, BB Tamang, Sakila Subba, Dal Bdr Thapa and Mina Baraily.

The meeting started with the reading up of the last year demand put on. Question was asked by PP Upretti, Vice President, SGSS regarding updates on different demands that were put on last year at the Ward Sabha. Giving answer to the queries, Deepa Chettri, Ward Panchayat said that due to Corona Pandemic much of the demand work is yet to be completed. She said, she is doing the follow up. LN Pradhan, Chief Advisor requested the Ward Panchayat to follow up those demands and make it possible for the development of the village.

Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS appealed the Ward Panchayat to carry on with the last year’s demand to this year’s list; adding two proposal of box drainage at the lower belt of Shantinagar and hydrain at Shantinagar Sai Mandir from the ongoing RMDD water work. Talks on land donated by HN Sharma for the village footpath from NH 10 till Rani Khola Walkway was also made. Despite different documents provided, the footpath had not been materialised, told Chettri. The meet also had discussion on different matters of importance. Arun Lama compiled today's minute dairy.

LENDUP DORJEE KHANGSARPA : The First Chief Minister of Sikkim (1975-1979)

Popularly known as L. D. Kazi, became the first Chief Minister of Sikkim in 1975 thus ending over three century old monarchy system. He became the 1st Chief Minister of Sikkim on 14 MAY, 1975 - 17 AUGUST, 1979. He was born in 1904 in Pakyong, East District. A fonuder President of Sikkim Praja Mandal, established in 1946. Later he became the President of Sikkim State Congress and held the post till 1958. In 4th general election held in 1970, Kazi was appointed an Executive Councilor and was assigned the portfolio of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Transport Authority. Under his presidency in 1973, the united party secured 31 out of 32 seats of State Assembly and became the first Chief Minister of Sikkim in 1974. He was married to Elisa-Maria Standford in 1968, daughter of a Belgian father and German mother who left her Scottish husband in Burma and married LD Kaji in Delhi in 1957.
