1st Singtam Open Badminton Tournament concludes

20.03.22, Singtam: Sahil Pradhan and Amon Rai, from Badminton Association of Jorethang, lifted the most anticipated title of Men's Doubles at the 1st Singtam Open Badminton Tournament defeating their rival teams of Wangyal Lepcha and Riwaj Rai from Gangtok.

More than 125 players from different parts of Sikkim, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Siliguri have participated in the 1st Singtam Open Badminton Tournament organized by Singtam Badminton Association, held at Indoor Sports Complex, Singtam. The tournament ended today with the finals of all six categories. Winners were awarded trophies, certificates, and cash prizes from the chief guest and other guests.



Dr. MK Sharma, Health Minister, and Area MLA was the chief guest of the day. Other guests to attend the event included Suresh Tamang (President, Singtam Nagar Panchayat), and his Councilors, Jigme Namgyal Bhutia (Vice President, Badminton Association of Sikkim), Y Kazi (Advisor, BAS), Robin Rai, senior state-level player,  Chedey Phigu Bhutia, CS Rai, LN Pradhan (President, Sikkim Government Retired Employees Welfare Association, Singtam) and others.



On the occasion, Dr, MK Sharma, also the Chief Patron of Singtam Badminton Association handed over an amount of three lakhs to Dr. JB Gurung, President, SBA for the development of the game at Singtam. Late Dr. AH Khan, a known name in and around Singtam was felicitated for his contribution towards society including sports. The felicitation was received by Cheday Phigu Bhutia, wife of Late AH Khan.



Uttam Jindal and Sunandita Bista (BAJ) defeated Riwaj Rai and Sangey Bhutia (YSS, Gangtok) to win the Mixed Doubles title. The team of Santanu Bose and Allen Rongkup (DDBA) lifted two titles in the 35+ doubles and the 40+ doubles. They defeated the teams of Hemant Rai and Arjun Tamang & Aswini Agarwal and Prasanjit Saha respectively.



In the 45+ doubles final the team of Aswini Agarwal and Prasanjit Saha defeated Sajan Limboo and Rajendra Maskey, players from Namchi. The next final saw Sajan Limboo and Rajendra Maskey (Badminton Association of Namchi) winning the 50+ doubles final defeating their rivals Ashim Bhowmick and Priyaranjan Paul from Siliguri (DDBA). Through this press release, Dr. JB Gurung, President SBA had thanked every individual who had helped in making the event successful.
