International level floor mat inaugurated at Singtam Indoor Badminton Court

05.08.22: Suresh Tamang, President, Singtam Nagar Panchayat inaugurated the floor mat of Badminton Court at Indoor Sports Complex, Singtam. Other distinguished guests to attend the event included Mukesh Agarwal and Kishore Chettri (Councillors, SNP), Tinku Adhikari (President, Singtam Motor Transport Welfare Drivers Association), Ganesh Pradhan (Food Sub Inspector), LN Pradhan (President, SGREWA, Singtam), Gupta Subba, Madan Tamang and members of Singtam Badminton Club.


A cake was cut to celebrate the event. Speaking on the occasion, Dr JB Gurung, President, Singtam Badminton Club thanked the advisors of the organisation for all their support in the upgradation of the badminton court. Gurung said that SBC had successfully hosted state level badminton tournament and in future, we are preparing to invite players from Siliguri and Nepal. He further said the badminton court is dedicated to the young generation of Singtam and everyone should take benefit from it. 



Suresh Tamang on the behalf of Singtam Nagar Panchayat congratulated the efforts of the Singtam Badminton Association in coming up with the standard of their badminton court. SBC in a short time had been able to make a mark in the state, he said. Players from SBC who had participated in the Gangtok Badminton Tournament were presented was presented with certificates. 



Singtam Badminton Club was set up in 2019 and has more than 110 members in its association. The club had recently organised a successful Summer Badminton Camp for the school-going kids that had participants of twenty-two aspiring players.

LENDUP DORJEE KHANGSARPA : The First Chief Minister of Sikkim (1975-1979)

Popularly known as L. D. Kazi, became the first Chief Minister of Sikkim in 1975 thus ending over three century old monarchy system. He became the 1st Chief Minister of Sikkim on 14 MAY, 1975 - 17 AUGUST, 1979. He was born in 1904 in Pakyong, East District. A fonuder President of Sikkim Praja Mandal, established in 1946. Later he became the President of Sikkim State Congress and held the post till 1958. In 4th general election held in 1970, Kazi was appointed an Executive Councilor and was assigned the portfolio of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Transport Authority. Under his presidency in 1973, the united party secured 31 out of 32 seats of State Assembly and became the first Chief Minister of Sikkim in 1974. He was married to Elisa-Maria Standford in 1968, daughter of a Belgian father and German mother who left her Scottish husband in Burma and married LD Kaji in Delhi in 1957.
